New Delhi , Oct. 5

THAILAND on Wednesday invited Indian petroleum companies to participate in the upstream activities there. This emerged at the meeting the Thai Energy Minister, Mr Viset Choopiban, had with the Petroleum Minister, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar.

The Minister also invited Indian companies to set up compressed natural gas network in Thailand.

Showing keen interest in use of alternative fuels, he said Thailand's bio-diesel industry was edible oil based. Edible oil usage is expensive. The Thai delegation sought information on India's research on using jatropha plant.

Mr Aiyar, while welcoming Thailand's interest, felt that there was a need to share primary information of the opportunities available there. He said that these could be latter taken forward and discussed between the delegations of the two countries.
