Our Bureau

Mumbai , Oct. 5

THE Tata Power Company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Jharkhand Government to evaluate setting up of 3000-MW generation capacity at various sites along with captive coal mining facilities and distribution circles in the State.

According to an official statement, Tata Power will carry out pre-feasibility studies within three months from the date of the MoU to decide the sites for the proposed power projects along with captive coal mines.

Mr A.J. Engineer, Director, Tata Power Company Ltd, said the agreement would help bridge the gap in the power requirements of the State and the country. Tata Power has an installed power generation capacity of 428 MW in Jharkhand, comprising three units of 308 MW and a fourth unit of 120 MW that was synchronised last month.

Earlier, Tata Steel had announced that it had formed a task force to initiate and complete preliminary work to finalise the site, secure raw materials and ensure infrastructure support for its proposed 12-million-tonne-per-annum greenfield steel plant to be set up in the State.

According to a company release, the task force would be headed by Mr Partha Sengupta, Principal Executive Officer of Tata Steel. Members of the task force in charge of site selection, logistics, and infrastructure include Mr Santanu Ghosh, Chief (Engineering), Engineering & Projects, Mr Jai Prakash Singh, Head (Engineering Services & Projects), Engineering & Projects, Mr Shankar Kumar Lahiri, Head Logistics Systems, and Mr Suresh Chandra Bhandari, Head (Business Development), Jusco.
