Cabinet okays 4% additional DA

THE Union Cabinet today approved release of an additional four per cent dearness allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and dearness relief to pensioners respectively over the existing rate of 17 per cent. This additional DA would become applicable with retrospective effect from July 1, 2005.

The additional financial implication on account of this increase in DA to serving employees are estimated at Rs 1,521.92 crore annually and for pensioners it would be Rs 616 crore taking the total to Rs 2,137.92 crore.

Rehabilitation package for BIC: The Cabinet also approved an additional allocation of Rs 47.35 crore for implementing the rehabilitation scheme of Kanpur-based British India Corporation (BIC) for payment to the Uttar Pradesh Government to secure conversion of leasehold land into freehold.
