Telecommunications ITS(AP) officers express concern over DoT contingency plan Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Oct.7 THE Indian Telecom Service Association of Andhra Pradesh has described the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) initiative of absorbing Group A officers and its contingency plan, as an effort to cripple the State owned public sector undertakings BSNL and MTNL. In a statement signed on Friday by its Joint Secretary, Mr N. Ramakrishna and the General Secretary, Mr N. Janardhana Rao, the officers association contended that the contingency plan prepared by the DoT has been thrust upon MTNL and BSNL. This would adversely affect the undertakings and they will lose their competitive edge. They urged the Government not to initiate any hasty actions as these would be detrimental to interest of both employees and the undertakings. "The plan to pull out the competent, expert, dedicated ITS officers from BSNL and man the services by introducing other officers, need to be stopped in the interest of the nation and the telecom sector," they contended. The ITS Association has appraised the Government and have written to the Prime Minister exercising their views and concerns of the issue. The DoT and PSUs are contemplating to engage retired employees for running the telecom services. These officers cannot be questioned for any decisions they take and cannot be held accountable or responsible. Referring to the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Hyderabad, they contended that on behalf of the DoT, in the case ITS officers do not opt for BSNL and MTNL, they will be taken back to the rolls of the DoT. In such an event, a large workforce of ITS officers will be available with DoT, who are well versed with telecom. These officers are wiling to work in BSNL/MTNL on deputation basis at the present terms and conditions without any disturbances in the working atmosphere of the organisations.
