Outsourcing HealthScribe opens unit in Coimbatore Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Oct. 7 THE Bangalore-based healthcare BPO - HealthScribe, which is today a fully owned subsidiary of the Spheris, a US-based medical transcription company, has opened its facility at the STPI IT Park in the Kumaraguru College of Technology campus in its new name - Spheris India Pvt Ltd. The Coimbatore-arm is the second location for Spheris in India, next to Bangalore. The company has invested about Rs 10 crore on this facility, which covers an area of 35,000 sq feet. The company is planning to add another 15,000 sq feet. It has commenced operations here with a workforce of 300, but by the end of 2006, it intends to ramp up its headcount to 3,000 from the existing 2,000 in India. Speaking to newspersons, Mr Suresh Nair, CEO and Managing Director of Spheris India, said the future plan was based on growth. "We have registered a 10 per cent plus growth year-on-year, but we hope to achieve a 30 to 50 per cent growth over the next two years, consequent to expanding our operations." However, the President and CEO of Spheris, Mr Steven E. Simpson, was not willing to share the acquisition cost. To a query, he did not rule out more acquisitions in the same space from a technology standpoint. "As of now, we are looking to grow organically," he said. Stating that there was phenomenal potential for growth in the medical transcription space, which was a $11.7 billion industry in the US, Mr Nair said less than two per cent was presently being outsourced to India.
