KASSIA to develop new industrial estate

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Oct. 7

THE Karnataka Small-Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) proposes to develop a new industrial estate exclusively for relocating existing units facing regulatory problems such as pollution control norms and for expansion of the units.

Unlike in the past when the SSI sector depended on the State Government agencies allotted sheds in industrial estates built by them, KASSIA plans to design and develop the estate itself on the land expected to be allotted by the State Government. The move is prompted by the lack of adequate space available in the Government industrial estates for catering to the needs of the new entrepreneurs.

KASSIA has sought 250 acres for the estate and hopes to finalise the location in six months from the three options at Magadi Road, Kanakapura Road and Tumkur Road, said Mr Hareesh P. Hegde, the new President of KASSIA.

He said the new estate would be given to KASSIA members whose existing units have to be shifted due to pollution regulations.

Besides, he added, several units were located in places, which have developed into residential areas.

Mr Hegde also said that KASSIA plans to replicate the model to accommodate small-scale units of members of the affiliated units in the moffusil areas to enable them to be closer to markets.

He said the new estate was expected to be ready in about two years and hoped that the Government would extend all infrastructure facilities.

KASSIA plans to set up committees to assess the infrastructure facilities in the industrial clusters and prepare a report for submission to the Government for redressal measures.

The association also sought the revival of the Round Table Conference for better coordination between the industry and Government departments for sorting out various problems.
