NHAI ties up with Italian body

THE National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Friday that it had entered into a programme of co-operation with the Road and Highways Authority of Italy (ANAS).

"Under this, the Indian and Italian road administrations have agreed to cooperate mainly in areas of mutual interest, including Italian and Indian technical rules and legislative instruments concerning toll roads construction and management, definition of forms of private investments for attracting public-private partnerships for the construction and upgradation of roads, and highway operation and maintenance," a release said here.

A Memorandum of Intent on this programme was signed in Rome earlier this week by Mr Santosh Nautiyal, Chairman, NHAI, and Mr Vincenzo Pozzi, Chairman, ANAS SpA.

The cooperation also includes exchange of experience, research, results and knowledge mainly in the fields of road traffic safety, planning and information management system for road administration, road maintenance, road data bank, including methods for collecting input data, road and highway maintenance/upgrading strategies, including adopted systems and road maintenance equipment, implementation and management of upgrading/new construction road (highway) and bridge projects, road and bridge technology, and staff training.
