Kolkata , Oct. 8

EVERGREEN, a Taiwan-based container operator, proposes to enhance its presence in India by opening more offices. It opened five offices at Kolkata, Haldia, Kandla, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore on October 1, bringing the total in the country to 11, according to shipping industry sources.

This follows the shipping line's assessment of the Indian market as "increasingly important," the sources said.

The shipping line had earlier opened offices at Mumbai, Nhava Sheva, New Delhi, Chennai, Tuticorin, and Kochi.

Evergreen India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Evergreen group, has been representing Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd and Hatsu Marine Ltd in India since 2004.
