New Delhi , Oct 9

GAIL (India) Ltd and IOC have joined hands to set up a joint venture called Green Gas Ltd (GGL).

The company has been incorporated for implementation of city gas projects for supply of piped natural gas (PNG) to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers, and compressed natural gas (CNG) to automobile consumers in Agra and Lucknow, a GAIL release said.

Apart from GAIL and IOC, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation would be inducted in GGL.

GGL would look at setting up three CNG stations in Lucknow and two CNG stations in Agra initially. It plans to supply PNG to about 1,000 domestic consumers in first year, the release added.

GAIL has already incorporated Central UP Gas Ltd (CUGL), a joint venture with BPCL for implementation of a city gas project in Kanpur in February this year for supply of CNG and PNG.

Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), a joint venture of GAIL, BPCL, and Delhi Government is already supplying CNG in Noida.

With this, availability of CNG is going to increase in Uttar Pradesh in the near future.

Further, GAIL has plans to introduce CNG through CUGL and GGL in the cities of Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, GAIL is planning to form State-wise joint venture companies for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka along with oil marketing companies, the release said.
