Infrastructure Govt committed to growth of capital city: Kerala CM Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 10 THE State Government accords top priority to the development of Thiruvananthapuram, said the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy. Addressing the concluding session of the annual convention of the Trivandrum Management Association (TMA) in the city today, he pointed out that the Government is in favour of a result-oriented approach to the development of the city's infrastructure. The State Government is supporting a series of measures to improve the infrastructure and quality of life in Thiruvananthapuram, he added. The Centre has announced that the Technopark-Thiruvananthapuram will have the status of a special economic zone, the Chief Minister said. Similarly, work will soon commence on a project to upgrade the Thiruvananthapuram international airport. A project to improve the city's road network is already on, he added. In principle approval has been given by the Centre for the establishment of an airport in Kannur district, Mr Chandy said. The State Government has already approved this project, he added. The State Public Works Minister, Dr M.K. Muneer, who also addressed the gathering, said that Thiruvananthapuram's infrastructure has received top priority from the Government. For instance, Rs 250 crore is being invested in the ongoing project to improve the city's roads, he pointed out. Earlier, welcoming the gathering, the President of the TMA, Mr M. Ayyappan, said that a strong demand that had risen during the meeting was that a planned mechanism must be set up to ensure the fast track development of Thiruvananthapuram. This was in keeping with the convention's theme of `Management of infrastructure for capital region development', he pointed out. The meeting also decided that a master plan for the development of Thiruvananthapuram must be prepared, he added. Mr John Mathai, Principal Secretary-Revenue, Government of Kerala also addressed the gathering.
