JET Airways has launched a distinctive online facility for Web check-in here today. Jet Airways is the first Indian airline and fifth in Asia-Pacific to introduce this facility, said Mr Gaurang Sethi, Vice-President (Marketing), Jet Airways.

"The new initiative will allow customers not only to select their preferred seat but also to print their boarding pass for the same day return flight on our Web site," Mr Peter Luethi, Chief Operating Officer, Jet Airways, told newspersons at the launch of the product in Mumbai on Monday.

The Web check-in application has been developed by US-based Sabre Airline Solution and it has been further customised for Jet Airways at their development centre in Bangalore.

Jet Airways has introduced this new facility only for domestic flights. Mr Luethi said that security concerns have also been taken into consideration and a maximum of seven passengers will be allowed to book in a group.

This is available for passengers holding a confirmed and valid e-ticket, anytime between 48 hours and 60 minutes prior to their flight departure.

E-tickets can be issued through travel agents, Jet Airways portal, Jet Airways airport and city offices. "We were the first to introduce online bookings (last year), wherein passengers could book, pay and print their e-ticket on the Web," said Mr Luethi.

"There has been a steady increase in e-ticketing, though it is still only 2 per cent of the total bookings," according to Mr Sethi.

Referring to reports that Jet Airways was looking at acquiring another domestic airline, Mr Leuthi said: "As far as my knowledge goes, we are not negotiating with anyone for any acquisition." Asked if the airline had an open mind on acquisition, he quipped: "We always have an open mind."
