Ranbaxy drug gets FDA nod

NEW DELHI: Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to manufacture and market gabapentin capsules used for certain nerve-related disorders.

Ranbaxy's formulations are found to have the same therapeutic effect as Pfizer's Neurontin Capsules. The total sales for oral gabapentin were $2.2 billion, while sales of gabapentin capsules totalled $1.2 billion. Gabapentin is indicated for the management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults and can also be used in the treatment of partial seizures.
