Performance Customised home theatre systems push Onkyo sales Our Bureau
Chennai , Oct. 10 CUSTOMISED home theatre systems have been driving sales for Onkyo, makers of high-end hi-fi and home theatre systems, according to Mr M. A. Dhandapani, Managing Director, Onkyo Sight and Sound India Pvt Ltd. He said Onkyo India was growing at a 60 per cent CAGR. The company registered a turnover of Rs 60 crore in 2004 and hopes to touch Rs 100 crore by the end of 2006. It will take home entertainment to the next level with the launch of an entertainment PC early next year, said Mr Dhandapani. This is how it works. There will be only one entertainment PC in a house connected either through wires or wireless and each room can have access to the same or different content. It will also be possible to watch or hear earlier or later portions of the same content. This venture will use one of the platforms provided by Intel called Digital Homes. The product will be launched in the US, followed by Japan and India, said Mr Dhandapani. Onkyo has also tied up with a number of international brands such as ELAC speakers from Germany, OmniMount audio and video (AV) mounting devices, Oehlbach (the German cable brand) and Spectral AV furniture to offer its home theatre systems as a total package. By end-October, Onkyo will distribute these brands in India. Onkyo will also provide content for home theatre systems through the Internet. This new product will further home networking, Mr Dhandapani said. He said the company's arrangement with LG and B&W for plasma screen TVs continues. The company has also tied up with Canon projectors. The cost of the total home theatre system could range from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore, depending on the equipment, he said. The home theatre system segment continues to be urban-centric, though there have been enquiries from tier II cities, said Mr Dhandapani.
