Rubber prices zoom further

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Oct. 12

AFTER recording all round gains on Tuesday, spot rubber prices zoomed again driven by extreme short supply on Wednesday.

The covering groups continued to chase the meagre arrivals while the gap between the demand and supply positions widened as the producing sector preferred to hold their stock. According to sources, purchase agents were more active in village markets and hence the inflow to the main marketing centres declined.

Certain major manufacturers who were hesitant to buy at lower levels in the previous weeks seemed to be procuring sheet rubber at higher levels to fulfil their requirements. The grade improved sharply to Rs 68.50 from Rs 67.00 and Rs 67.25, respectively at Kottayam and Kochi on Tuesday.

The domestic futures markets remained closed on Wednesday on account of VijayadesamiPhysical rubber prices a kg were:

RSS-4: Rs 68.50 (Rs 67), RSS-5: Rs 66.50 (Rs 65.50), Ungraded: Rs 64.50 (Rs 64), ISNR 20: Rs 66 (Rs 65) and latex 60%: Rs 45 (Rs 44.50).
