Karnataka: Toyota, JVSL, Wipro projects get State nod

TOYOTA Kirloskar Motors' proposal to set up a Rs 1,147-crore compact cars facility at Bidadi near here and two Wipro SEZ projects worth Rs 263 crore are among the 24 mega industrial project proposals cleared by the Karnataka Government's high-level committee.

The total investment plans are worth Rs 24,893 crore in auto, steel, sugar and infotech sectors.

The auto major has proposed its second facility on 200 acres of land near the existing facility 30 km from the city. The new plant would have an annual capacity to make 1.5 lakh cars. The proposal involves 2,600 new jobs, the Industry & Infrastructure Minister, Mr P.G.R. Sindhia, announced at a news conference on Tuesday. The Chief Minister chairs the committee.

Wipro has been given clearance to set up a Rs 160-crore IT-ITeS SEZ at Electronics City and a similar one on its Sarjapur campus at an investment of Rs 103 crore.

Steel major Jindal Vijayanagar Steels Ltd plans to invest Rs 10,912 crore in two phases to more than double its capacity at Toranagal plant from 3.2 mtpa to 8 mtpa. Its subsidiary JSW's plan to set up a cold rolled stripe and sheets facility at Toranagal would involve an investment of Rs 1,100.9 crore.

Mr Sindhia said among the steel plant proposals cleared is one from Southern Port Terminals Ltd, which plans to start a Rs 4,805-crore integrated steel plant at on 1,750 acres of land at Raichur.

Software major i-flex Solutions is planning a development centre at Mysore at an investment of Rs 475 crore.

Among proposals by Scan Ispat, IST Steel & Power and Marmagoa Steel; Bharat Sugar Mills; Praxair India and India Gypsum.
