Foreign Banks Citigroup CEO calls on PM, Chidambaram Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 13 GLOBAL financial services major, Citigroup's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Charles Prince, today kicked-off his two-day official visit to India by calling on the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram. Mr Prince's separate meetings with the two leaders lasted about 20 minutes each. Indications are that the issue of financial sector reforms figured in the discussions. During his visit, Mr Prince is also slated to meet the Reserve Bank of India Governor, Dr Y.V. Reddy, besides some of the Citigroup employees in India. Citigroup has some 17,000 employees in India and Pakistan. The Citigroup CEO's visit to India comes less than a month after Mr Chidambaram's visit to the US to attend the annual meeting 2005 of the IMF-World bank. During his visit to the US last month, the Finance Minister met the CEOs of major US companies and discussed issues relating to investments in India, especially in the manufacturing and infrastructure sector.
