Maritime law institute opens in Kochi today

THE Indian Institute of Maritime Law is setting up its office here to create awareness on maritime law among the shipping fraternity in Kochi.

The official inauguration of the institute will be held here on Saturday, and Mr S. Venkiteswaran, Senior Counsel from Mumbai will deliver the inaugural lecture.

A press release issued here said that the institute aims to conduct seminars and study sessions to promote awareness on maritime law considering the disputes arising in the shipping industry due to lack of proper law.

This lack of knowledge is even found among the people in the managerial level.

Experts will handle classes on various subjects.

Mr B. Anilkumar, Company Secretary, and Mr Joy Thattil, a practising lawyer in the Kerala High Court has been elected as the Chairman and Secretary General of the institute.
