TWO companies of the Chennai-based Rane group — Rane Engine Valves Ltd and Rane TRW Steering Systems Ltd — have received the Deming Prize, awarded by the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers.

Rane Engine Valves is a listed company that produces automotive valves. Rane TRW Steering is an equal joint venture between the Rane group and TRW Automotive of US. The award has been given to the steering gear division of the company.

Last year, another group company Rane Brake Linings, had received the award.

The Deming Prize is reputed to be one of the highest awards on TQM (Total Quality Management) in the world. It was established in 1951 in commemoration of the late Dr William Edwards Deming who taught the basic principles of statistical quality control to executives, managers and engineers of Japanese industries.
