Hyderabad , Oct. 16

AIMED at aggressively propagating the ongoing developmental projects of the State at the convention being organised by the Andhra Pradesh Development Council of America (APDCA) next week and to attract significant investments from the US-based NRIs for the successful execution of these projects, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed officials to adopt a special strategy.

The APDCA is organising a convention `Development programmes of AP' at Akbar Restaurant in Long Island, New York, next week.

According to the Chief Minister, innovative programmes such as Jala Yagnam, free power to farmers, Indira Kranti Patham, Rajiv Gruha Kalpa , Rajiv Palle Baata, Rajiv Nagara Baata, Women Empowerment and State Gas Grid have already been recognised at the national level.

"It is high time the Government propagates our policies and programmes at the international level, particularly in advanced countries such as USA, and attract NRIs and international financial agencies to invest liberally in Andhra Pradesh for achieving rapid economic growth," the Chief Minister told officials.

According to a press release here, the Chief Minister has already deputed the Special Representative of Andhra Pradesh in New Delhi, Dr Mallu Ravi, and other senior non-official dignitaries to participate in the convention and promote the works of the Government.

As a part of the special strategy, the Government plans to propagate the key development programme — Jala Yagnam — consisting of 26 prioritised projects and four major projects at a total cost of Rs 46,000 crore. These projects are planned to irrigate 86.75 lakh acres of ayacut including stabilisation of 20 lakh acres, besides generating 1,700 MW of power.

The State Government also plans to highlight the measures being taken to use natural gas available in the Krishna-Godavari basin for the development of industries through Regional Gas Grid, creating port-based Special Economic Zones (SEZs) connected by Gas Grid, infrastructure development for setting up of industries through public-private partnership, and creating employment.

GAIL (India) has recently agreed to cooperate economically, technically and assist the State Government in establishing the Regional Gas Grid, which would revolutionise the State for achieving rapid economic growth, the Chief Minister said.
