Awards & Honours Awards for nurses Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Oct. 16 THE Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which runs a 24-hour emergency response service in five cities in the State, has announced awards to 13 nurses for their exemplary work. The winners include six from Hyderabad hospitals, four from Vijayawada and three from Tirupati. The awards were presented by Ms Sujatha K. Rao, Principal Secretary, State Medical, Health and Family Welfare, on Thursday at a function here. EMRI, which launched its first service in Hyderabad on August 15, 2005, with the emergency number `108' has branched out to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal, since then. It has specialised ambulances and responders on two-wheelers. Fitted with high-end medical facilities and a GPS system for vehicle location and tracking, and doctors at the centralised response centre, the facility in Hyderabad has handled about 100,000 calls in 45 days, the institute said. EMRI has instituted EENA (EMRI Emergency Nurses Awards) to recognise and honour nurses. Similarly, it has instituted SHE (Selfless Heroism in Emergencies) awards to recognise citizens who show special efforts in emergencies to save lives.
