TNEB workers sign wage settlement; two unions keep away

BARRING two unions - CITU and LPF - nine other workers unions signed a wage settlement with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board on Saturday.

The State Government has also announced a hike in pension for the employees who retired from service between December 1, 2000 and November 30, 2002. The increase will be between Rs 300 and Rs 1,000 and will benefit over 8,676 former employees. The arrears will be paid as a lump sum.

The Board will face an expense of Rs 12 crore due to this pension hike during the current year and a recurring expenditure of Rs 6.50 crore annually.

It may be recalled that the wage settlement announced on Friday is for five years from December 1, 2002. It provides for a six per cent hike on the basic pay representing an increase of Rs 600 to Rs 2,235.
