The show will be an opportunity for the Indian industry to enhance bilateral trade volume as well as diversify the trade basket.

New Delhi , Oct. 16

THE Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, and Mr Yang Xiaodu, Vice-Mayor of Municipal Government of Shanghai, will inaugurate the third Made in India (MII) show on Monday at Shanghai, China.

A highlight of the show will be the hydrocarbon pavilion, with participation from GAIL, ONGC, HPCL, BPCL, Oil India, Engineers India Ltd, IOC, PCRA, and Indian Oil Technologies.

The non-conventional energy sources from India would be represented at the show by Suzlon Energy, NEPC India, Malavalli power plant, and the World Institute of Sustainable Energy. The show will also witness the participation of a spectrum of the Indian industry with participation from companies such as ITC, Tata, ACC, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Sundram Fasteners.

In the services sector, the show will see the presence of the banking sector with participation from three nationalised banks - SBI, Punjab National Bank, and Canara Bank.

Tourism pavilion: Another highlight would be the tourism pavilion, with participation from the Ministry of Tourism and the State Tourism Corporations from Goa, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, as well as travel agents Thomas Cook and the Bird group.

The show includes participation of ITC Agro and Diamond and Gem Development Corporation Ltd.

Enhancing trade: The show will be an opportunity for the Indian industry to enhance bilateral trade volume as well as diversify the trade basket.

According to the latest Chinese Customs statistics, the bilateral trade between India and China during the first eight months of the year touched $12.2 billion and is all set to cross the record of $13.6 billion achieved in the last fiscal.

According to the CII, services and knowledge trade between India and China has significant potential for growth in areas such as biotech, IT and ITeS, health, education, tourism, and the financial sector.

However, there is also an urgent need to shift the focus from primary exports to the export of high value added products in order to exponentially enhance trade volume.

The show is being organised by the CII in association with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Consulate-General of India in Shanghai along with support from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the China Chamber of International Commerce.
