General Insurance Industry & Economy - Health `Cradle care' policy to cover congenital defects Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Oct. 17 INSURANCE broking firm - Link-K Insurance Broker Company (Private) Ltd, in association with United India Insurance Company Ltd and the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons, has introduced a policy for newborns. The `Cradle Care' insurance policy can be availed by expectant mothers (on or before the 20th week of pregnancy) as a contingency cover against abnormalities or birth defects in the new born. The President of the Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons, Dr Ramkumar Raghupathy, said the association had been negotiating with insurers for such a policy for almost a year. Under this policy, the assured sum is paid to the insured even if the deformity was not apparent at birth, but manifests itself within 200 days of date of delivery. The insured sum can range between Rs 20,000 and Rs 2 lakh.
