RFID tech meet begins today

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 17

A TWO-DAY conference-cum-exhibition on Electronic Product Code (EPC) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology opens on Tuesday in the Capital.

International speakers will share their experiences on applications and benefit from EPC and RFID technology with delegates from various sectors such as retail, logistics, aviation, IT and pharmaceutical among others.

RFID technology helps in efficiencies such as tracking freight goods in transit and effective supply chain management.

Implementation of the technology entails labelling and physical tagging of the products, thus enabling their tracking.

Following the global trend, businesses in India are likely to witness statutory requirements to follow certain standards for storage and shipment of their products.

Through the technology, it would be possible to find out if the products are meeting those standards.

The speakers include Mr Robert L Mayberry of IBM, Mr Daniel Wong of Hong Kong Airport Authority and Mr Prasenjit Lahiri of Wipro.

The conference is being organised by EPCglobal India, which was launched in the country to lead the development of industry driven standards in India for the EPC to support the use of RFID.
