Railways Railways posts earnings of Rs 25,468 cr in Apr-Sept Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 18 THE Indian Railways registered total earnings of Rs 25,467.91 crore from passenger, freight and parcel transportation during April-September 2005. This is 15.74 per cent higher than its earnings of Rs 22,004.44 crore during the corresponding period last year. The total earnings were 4.89 per cent more than the budgeted target of Rs 24,279.91 crore. The total goods earnings of Rs 16,958.65 crore during the period increased 18.28 per cent over Rs 14,337.95 crore in the corresponding period last year, according to an official release. It also registered an increase of 6.36 per cent over the budgeted target of Rs 15,944.07 crore for the period. The total passenger revenue at Rs 7,660.06 crore, increased 10.04 per cent from Rs 6,960.92 crore during the same period last year. The total passenger earnings were 3.27 per cent more than the budgeted target of Rs 7,417.65 crore for the period. Earnings from other coaching operations (parcel booking) at Rs 559.92 crore moved up 21.2 per cent during the period (Rs 461.99 crore). A total of 289.566 crore passengers bookings were made during the period (271.889 crore).
