Opening the LoC

It is said that God creates problems for people so that they can become more humane.

From the enormous scale of damage caused to people on both sides of the Line of Control, has emerged a silver lining. The Pakistan President has thrown open the LoC to allow people to come from Kashmir to help in earthquake relief efforts.

Even as the borders are being opened to help people from dying of disease and hunger, will they be closed again, in the future, to prepare for killing?

One hopes politicians on both sides will realise the futility of perpetual confrontation and decide to bring peace to the people of Kashmir and to the whole subcontinent. Should that happen, the thousands of deaths on both sides of the LoC would not have been in vain.
