Vacuum packing of bulk tea

WATERFALL Estate (East) Pvt Ltd has introduced vacuum packing of bulk tea, which the company claimed, would capture the freshness of tea and seal its antioxidants. This would also extend the shelf life to beyond 12 months.

Mr G. Gopalakrishnan, Director, told presspersons that it is for the first time that vacuum packing for bulk tea introduced in the Indian tea market and the company had invested Rs 2 crore for the processing technology to maintain its leadership position in bringing garden fresh tea to the consumers' teacup.

The company has auctioned the first batch of vacuum-packed bulk tea in the tea auction at the Cochin Tea Trade Association held on Tuesday.

The first line of five bags of SFD grade was bought by Gurudev Agencies for a record price of Rs 103 per kg, Mr P.R. Ninan, MD, Paramount Tea Marketing Pvt Ltd, who auctioned the tea said. The contribution from this lot would go to a charity through the Cochin Tea Trade Association, he added.
