YSR calls for focussed approach to housing

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Oct. 19

IN a bid to achieve the set targets of the State Government in housing programmes, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has asked officials to complete all the housing schemes as per schedule.

According to an official release, the Chief Minister said that non-selection and non-receipt of beneficiary lists from several legislators and district in charge ministers were causing delays in the rural housing programme.

Accordingly, the Chief Minister asked officials to set a final date for receipt of beneficiaries' lists. If they were not received, the district collectors would be authorised to identify the beneficiaries.

In all, there were 4,44,140 backlog houses under all schemes as on April 1, 2005, out of which 2,30,060 houses were completed so far and the balance 2,14,080 were yet to be completed.

Dr Reddy directed them to identify 25 per cent of villages in each mandal first and identify the genuine beneficiaries based on the ration cards allotted to each family.
