Shipping Japanese shipping line Mitsui to launch new India-Singapore service Our Bureau
Chennai , Oct. 19 JAPANESE shipping line Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd is launching a new service between India and Singapore Straits next month. The service links Nhava Sheva in western India and Tuticorin in the South with Singapore and Port Kelang, and will meet the increasing demand for cargo transport to India, where trade is expanding significantly, says information available in the company Web site. The line will use three 700-800 TEU (twenty foot equivalent units) type container ships in joint operation with the Singapore-based Advance Container Lines (Pte) Ltd and Simatech Shipping & Forwarding LLC of UAE. The transit time between Singapore and Nhava Sheva will be eight days, and between Tuticorin and Singapore six days. From Tokyo it will take 17 days to reach Nhava Sheva travelling via Singapore or Port Kelang, according to the Web site. The port rotation for the new fixed-day service, which has been named the Nhava Sheva Tuticorin Straits Express, will be: Singapore (Saturday), Port Kelang (Sunday), Nhava Sheva (Sunday/Monday), Colombo (Thursday), Tuticorin (Friday/Saturday), Colombo (Saturday/Sunday), Port Kelang (Thursday/Friday) and back to Singapore (Friday). The container ship MOL Ambition will undertake the maiden voyage on November 5 sailing from Singapore. Other existing services operated by MOL in the region are the Nhava Sheva Express Service, the Nhava Sheva Straits Service and the Nhava Sheva Straits China.
