Cleaning up drive

Paul Noronha

Mumbai municipal workers fish out garbage from the sea near the Gateway of India on Thursday. The Maharashtra Government had recently announced a ban on all kinds of plastic bags holding these responsible for the clogged drains after the monsoon deluge in July.

The State Government has formed another committee headed by the former chief secretary, Mr V. Ranganathan, to look into the objections and suggestions on its ban notification. The committee is expected to submit its decision in a month.
