The hospital will have a liver failure unit, a laser and laparoscopy unit, facilities for dialysis and renal transplant, and a complete cardiology unit for cardiac and cardio-thoracic surgery and angioplasty.
The 150,000-sq.ft hospital on over two acres offers 225 beds, including 52 for intensive care, seven operation theatres and 24-hour emergency medical services in the first phase, with an investment of about Rs 40 crore going into the project. Dr Rajkumar said the completed institution would have 550 beds.
A press release said the hospital would look to establish itself as one of the largest gastroenterology centres in Asia. Information technology would play a significant role in its operations with hospital information systems and tele-medicine services developed in collaboration with IQ-Soft, a provider of quality management software solutions. In addition, the hospital had developed a radio frequency identification system (RFID) attached to arm bands provided to patients, which would allow the hospital to monitor patients' movements. The RFID system would be in place by January, according to Dr Rajkumar.
Lifeline Group also has two medical centres in Chennai.
