Singapore Airlines to begin Hyderabad service on Oct 30

Hyderabad , Oct. 20

SINGAPORE Airlines will launch its operations from Hyderabad on October 30, replacing the services of its subsidiary SilkAir and making it the eighth destination in India.

The airline would operate its Boeing 777-220 aircraft, which can seat 288, four days a week.

After the launch, the total number of flights to India by the airline would go up to 46 (a week). In addition to this, SilkAir operates eight weekly services to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

The airline would also increase the frequency of flights to Bangalore from three to five from October 30.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Mr B.K. Ong, General Manager (India) of Singapore Airlines, said the company had a lot of confidence in Andhra Pradesh, which was backed by good financial indicators and tourism potential.

"It has got good potential in temple tourism, medical tourism and beach tourism. Besides, corporate traffic too is growing. The proposed international airport would make Hyderabad a hub between the East and European Union."

On replacing SilkAir with Singapore Airline at Hyderabad, Mr Ong said it was operating A-320 with a capacity of 140 seats. Keeping in mind the increasing demand, the airline had decided to operate bigger aircraft, and, hence, the replacement.

Last of the SilkAir craft would fly on October 28. From October 30, Singapore Airline's aircraft — SQ 439 Hyderabad-Singapore and SQ 438 Singapore-Hyderabad — would fly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

To promote the new destination, the airline announced a special fare scheme to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hong Kong.

Singapore Airline would commercially use the Airbus A-380 in December 2006.

"It will offer a completely new experience. An inner circle is working on that," he said.

The double-decker aircraft, which would seat 480 passengers, would have a special enclosure that offered the "new experience". It would connect Singapore with Sydney.
