Airlines Marketing - Promotions & Offers GoAir begins ticket sales, announces FreeFares offer Our Bureau
Mumbai , Oct. 21 THE low-cost airline promoted by the Wadia Group, GoAir has commenced sale of tickets as of Friday (October 21). The Wadia Group are the owners of Bombay Dyeing and Britannia Industries Ltd. To start with the airline will operate on the Mumbai, Goa, Ahmedabad and Coimbatore routes. The airline has announced the GoAir FreeFares launch offer under which it will make available 10,000 free tickets per month per destination. These tickets will be available on a `first come first serve' basis. The offer will be valid for six months from October 2005 to March 2006, and passengers who book early stand to get a zero fare; they would only have to pay taxes of Rs 221. The airline plans to begin operations with twice-daily flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad and Mumbai and Goa; and a single daily flight between Mumbai and Coimbatore. A detailed schedule of flight operations is available on the Web site www.goair.in. An official release said the fare structure is aimed at rewarding clients who book early. However, the fares would vary based on seat availability and the time of booking. Mr Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir, said, "In the coming months, we would look at progressive route expansion. We will try to commoditise air travel in India by delivering low-cost fares coupled with quality in terms of price, efficiency and service with a smile." He said the airline's distribution network would not just be accessible but also convenient to everyone. Further, he added, "It is our dream to increase air connectivity in India, and this is our first step in this direction." Passengers who do not possess credit cards, debit cards or even a computer, can book their tickets at any of the 1,000 distribution points including travel agents, MTNL Customer Care Centre (1600-222-111 or 09223-222-111), TATA Indicom centres, Inlott centres and other channel partners. The fares on the airline would be 40 per cent lower than that of traditional airlines and around 10 per cent higher than air-conditioned first and second-class railway fares. Among the other routes the airline is considering are Bhavnagar, Aurangabad, Kholapur, Rajkot, Jammu, Bhopal, Madurai, and Kozhikode. The airline will commence services with one A320 aircraft with a single-class, 180-seat configuration, and plans to expand its fleet to 36 aircraft in three years.
