Amazon to open centre at Chennai

AMAZON.COM is to open a second India facility, in Chennai, to manage technology aspects of the Web site features developed at the location.

The company is planning to hire an undisclosed number of people at the Chennai facility, primarily to do idea generation, analysis and technical design as well as front-, middle- and back-tier software development across architectures and technologies.

In a statement, the company, which has a Bangalore centre, said it was looking for `exceptional computer scientists,' in its fourth Amazon.com international development centre.

The company has centres in Edinburgh, Scotland; Cape Town, South Africa; and Bangalore.
