Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 22

A COMMON platform for collective working of diverse non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at the district/regional/State/national level under the Chairmanship of Dr Mohan Dharia, former Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, has been set up to articulate, in particular, the concerns of rural India.

Stating this at a news conference here, the honorary co-Chairman, Mr L.V. Saptharishi, a retired senior civil servant and Dr G. Muniratnam, Member Secretary and Executive Chairman of the newly formed Confederation of Rural India (CNRI), said the main thrust is to focus on capacity building and quality appraisal of its member NGOs to enhance their performance potentials. This is sought to be achieved by instituting NGO Training Academy in each State for which details are being worked out.

They said the first National Executive of the Confederation would be held in November third week, in Pune, under the leadership of Dr Dharia. They said the CNRI would convene a series of training programmes to equip NGOs and the self-help groups towards capacity-building, enhancement of their expertise in different directions, particularly in new technology initiatives, productive enterprises, etc.
