`Creating shareholder value, helping society must go together'

Hyderabad , Oct. 23

MR S. Sivakumar, Chief Executive Officer of ITC Ltd (Agri Business), has said that any effort to improve shareholder value should not be at the cost of society.

"Creating shareholder value and helping society can go together," he said, addressing the students of Siva Sivani Institute of Management here on Saturday.

The objective of the young managers should be finding solutions for the problems of the disadvantaged people in the country. "About two-thirds of Indians depend on agriculture. But their per capita GDP is far less than the rest of the countrymen. It is in the order of 1:4," he said.

"What can we, as managers, do to address this problem is a big challenge," he said.

There were not many choices some time ago. But now there are many choices in sectors such as automobiles and telecom creating a variety of opportunities. "How one makes a choice is an important issue," he said.
