SoftJin tool to compress large design files

Bangalore , Oct. 23

ELECTRONIC design companies can now save on their time and storage by using a new tool that compresses large design files by up to 20 times.

Bangalore-based SoftJin Technologies, which develops EDA software, has announced a tool that compresses large IC layout files in GDSII format by up to 20 times. This tool, GDSIIZIP, is up to five times better than existing freebies such as GZIP, said a release issued by the company.

The software helps semiconductor companies that deal with heavy files (ones that need more storage capacity) on nanometer designs. With GDSIIZIP, time for transfer of these files across design groups, mask makers and foundries gets reduced considerably, the release said.

"The new tool marks a significant leap forward as it clearly addresses inherent inefficiencies in the GDSII format and results in defined time and cost savings for its users," said Mr Nachiket Urdhwareshe, CEO, SoftJin.
