Airlines Southern cities to see more global air services Nina Varghese
Chennai , Oct. 24 THERE will be an increase in air capacity on international sectors from Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad from October 30. British Airways will start operations from Bangalore with five flights a week from October and increase its flights from Mumbai and Chennai. There will be two flights a day from Mumbai and six flights a week from Chennai. The airline has 19 flights a week from India to London a daily direct flight from Mumbai and Delhi, thrice a week from Kolkata and twice a week from Chennai, said an airline press release. According to the airline Web site, Northwest Airlines and KLM will start non-stop service from Amsterdam to Bangalore and Hyderabad effective October 30. Northwest will operate daily flights from Bangalore to Amsterdam and KLM will operate four flights out of Hyderabad to Amsterdam effective October 31. Air France will operate five flights a week out of Bangalore from October 31 taking the airline's weekly services out of India to 26. It now operates daily flights out of Delhi and Mumbai. Singapore Airlines will start operations to Hyderabad from October 30. The airline will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday using Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 777-300 aircraft. From October 30, Singapore Airlines will add more services to Bangalore. It will operate two additional weekly services on Friday and Sunday. According to information available on the airline's Web site, the earlier arrival time in Singapore means that customers have more options for connections to Europe, Australia and the US on Singapore Airlines' network. Hyderabad will become Singapore Airlines' eighth destination in India, in addition to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. This will put the airline's total number of non-stop weekly services to India at 45. SilkAir, Singapore Airlines' regional wing, will cease operations to Hyderabad on October 28, but will continue to serve Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram with 12 non-stop weekly services. Airlines have also announced special promotional fares for the season. British Airways has special promotional fares from India to the UK from October. According to the airline's press release, reductions are available in all four cabins: First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and a special return fare of Rs 19,000 in World Traveller. This offer is valid for flights not only to the UK but also to Europe, the US and Canada. Passengers travelling between October 1 and March 31, 2006, from Indian points to London Heathrow can use this offer and have the flexibility to return anytime within one year of their outbound travel.
