Cement Birla Corp Q2 net up 36 pc at Rs 18.16 cr Our Bureau
Kolkata , Oct. 24 BIRLA Corporation Ltd (BCL), the flagship company of the M.P. Birla Group, reported a 36 per cent jump in net profit for the second quarter ending September 30, 2005 at Rs 18.16 crore compared to Rs 13.38 crore in the year-ago period. Profit before tax increased by 52 per cent to Rs 21.24 crore (Rs 13.98 crore) during the quarter. The Q2 interest outgo dipped to Rs 2.74 crore from Rs 4.85 crore posted during the same period last year. Mr R. S. Lodha, Chairman, said the new 27-megawatt thermal plant at Chanderia (Rajasthan) had been commissioned and put to use on August 31, 2005, and work on the power plant at Satra (Madhya Pradesh) was almost complete and would be commissioned shortly. These power plants will help the company reduce its power cost and achieve better operating efficiencies.
