Fertiliser output in August close to target

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct 24

FERTILISER production in the month of August was as per the target set by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, according to an official release.

The estimated production of fertilisers during the month stood at 17.98 lakh tonnes of urea and 4.41 lakh tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), against the target of 17.97 lakh tonnes and 4.95 lakh tonnes respectively.

DAP production during the month was 4.41 lakh tonnes against the target of 4.95 lakh tonnes, which was about 89 per cent of the target. DAP production was marginally below the targeted amount mainly because of non-availability of phosphoric acid, officials said.

However, the overall availability of urea and other decontrolled fertilisers in the States has been satisfactory.

During August, 19.84 lakh tonnes of urea was dispatched to the States against the target of 17.97 lakh tonnes.

Cumulative availability of urea during the kharif season has been 96.81 lakh tonnes, which was satisfactory in all the States.

Further, the sale of urea during kharif 2005 up to end of August was about 86.02 lakh tonnes, which was higher by about 13.29 per cent compared to 75.93 lakh tonnes in the corresponding previous period.

With regard to decontrolled fertilisers, cumulative availability of DAP and muriate of potash (MOP) till the end of August-end was about 31.46 lakh tonnes and 16.33 lakh tonnes respectively, which was adequate to meet the demands of the States.

In August, 1.23 lakh tonnes of urea, 3.58 lakh tonnes of DAP, and 1.99 lakh tonnes of MOP were imported.

The cumulative import of urea, DAP, and MOP during the April-August 2005 period stood at 3.82 lakh tonnes, 9.69 lakh tonnes, and 12.42 lakh tonnes, respectively.
