THE NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL), set up at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, is starting its third batch of Management Programme for Entrepreneurial Firms (MPEF) next month. The course offers formal management thought processes, techniques and skills for entrepreneurs.
Dr Manimala J. Mathew, Professor of Organisation Behaviour (IIMB), and Ms Jamuna Raghavan, Chair Professor of Entrepreneurship, said that the strength of the programme lies in its emphasis on development of core entrepreneurial skills and competencies.
Some of the topics during the seven-week course are enterprise environment, entrepreneurial policies and strategies, managerial competencies, tools and techniques, growth and transformation issues, corporate entrepreneurship, and so on. The programme has been designed to help entrepreneurs appreciate the need to have a professional management in their firms, the importance of managing change and growth for enterprises and to broaden the perspective of the entrepreneurs to help them operate in a global environment.
MPEF is a full-time programme. "Initially, we thought entrepreneurs would be hesitant to take time off from managing their enterprises. Now, we realise that not only do they enjoy the kinship of other entrepreneurs, but also get an opportunity to learn from others," said Prof Mathew. He also said that the profile of the participants had changed since the first batch took the course two years ago.
