Letters Show them out
It is well known that many so-called `servants of the people' continue to occupy government premises long after they cease to be `servants of people'. The list of `illegal' occupation by VVIPs of government accommodation in New Delhi, according to the list supplied by the Central Government is 465. There must be many more in other places and quite a large number of them will be using the same legal loopholes to stay put. Though the Supreme Court has used harsh words such as `throw out', to refer to the immediate evacuation of the VVIPs from government bungalows, they are well-suited to the situation. If the bureaucrats in question have an ounce of shame, they will vacate the premises without further delay. V. S. Venkatavaradan Salem

This problem has persisted for years as neither the politicians nor the bureaucrats vacate their accommodations once their term of office comes to an end. When even the accommodation allotted to the late P. V. Narasimha Rao is yet to be vacated, there is no surprise in Mr Buta Singh and Mr Jaswant Singh retaining the lodgings allotted to them when they were Ministers in New Delhi. Tharcius S. Fernando Chennai
