New Delhi , Oct 25

THE Apollo Hospitals Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Mauritius-based British American Investment (BAI) Company to set up a multi-speciality, 200-bed hospital in Mauritius.

A joint venture company would be formed by Apollo Hospitals and BAI and its associates for the hospital project.

Dr Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals, and Mr Dawood A. Rawat, Head of BAI Company, signed the MoU in the presence of Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius. The hospital will also house a training institute for nursing and paramedical staff apart from offering a unique blend of holistic medicine and complementary therapies such as ayurveda, acupuncture, aromatherapy and music therapy.

Dr Ramgoolam said, "We welcome this joint venture between Apollo Hospitals and BAI, and I am confident that Apollo Hospitals will provide healthcare of international standards to the people of Mauritius."

Added Dr Reddy, "We are confident that the proposed hospital will not only serve Mauritians but also provide advanced medical facilities to patients from neighbouring countries. We would also utilise telemedicine to bring in international expertise by enabling access to all Apollo Hospitals and its associates in the USA."

Mr Rawat said there was growing demand in Mauritius for advanced diagnosis and treatment for cardiac disorders, paediatric surgeries, neurosurgeries, advanced orthopaedics and oncology. He hoped that the hospital would bridge the gaps.
