WNS Global to tap Nashik's BPO strength

Mr Bhargava said that itwas essential to develop at least six to seven smaller centres in and around Maharashtra.

Pune , Oct. 27

THE global estimate of the business process outsourcing market runs into $400-500 billion. This sector is growing at 7-8 per cent, with India being the largest offshore location. India has a market share of 50 per cent, which is likely to continue for some more years unlike the dotcom bubble that burst soon after inception.

These are some of the statistics reeled out by Mr Neeraj Bhargava, Group Chief Executive Officer of WNS Global Services (P) Ltd, while addressing the 71st annual general meeting of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture.

Besides the huge US market, Indian BPOs also cater to Europe and Australia.

"And the Mumbai-Pune corridor is three times bigger than Bangalore," he said.

He also said it was essential to develop at least six to seven smaller centres in and around Maharashtra, to handle the smaller works handed out by customers.

He, however, cautioned that the positive outlook can be sustained only through certain measures such as improving connectivity across the State, both through land and air routes.

He further pointed out that "we need Government help only in legal framework and supporting laws. The rest of the job is ours as we have the expertise in this."

Mr Bhargava also noted that both the US and UK had let slip their lead in the field of education and warned against a similar situation in India. The company's Nashik operations, which currently has a staff strength of about 550, began after WNS acquired ClaimsBPO, an offshore division of the US-based Green Snow Inc, which provides HIPPA-compliant (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) BPO services.

ClaimsBPO is promoted by brothers Anil Bohora and Ajay Bohora, who have a background in the insurance industry.

The ClaimsBPO management team will be part of WNS' new division called WNS ClaimsBPO, which would offer back-office services related to medical and dental claims insurance processing for Green Snow Inc's US customers.
