APPLE has unveiled the fifth generation of the multimedia player iPod and the laptop range iMac.

The iPod, reputedly the most popular consumer electronics device to date, has been fitted with a 2.5-inch colour screen, for viewing photos and video. The new iPod can hold 15,000 songs and 25,000 photos or over 150 hours of video. Available in a 30GB model for Rs 22,100 and a 60GB model for Rs 29,400, the new iPods play MP3s as well as videos. Users can also view slideshows of photos on their television screens with the iPod AV cable.

The 30GB model lasts up to 14 hours of music playback and the 60GB model up to 20 hours.

The latest version of iTunes, v6 is also available as a free download from the Web site. According to a release issued by the company, 21 million iPods have been sold as of June 2005.

Apple also launched iMac G5, featuring a built-in video camera. The new laptop is thinner and 15 per cent lighter than the previous generation, says the release.
