Hyderabad , Oct. 27 THE Mauritius Government has invited entrepreneurs from the information technology and communication (ICT) sector to locate their centres assuring all necessary support. The Mauritius Prime Minister, Mr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on a two-day visit to the State, said Mauritius has the potential to serve as the gateway to African countries for Indian entrepreneurs. Investors can leverage the Mauritius presence to access over 500 million customers in the South African region. Mr Ramgoolam, who interacted with the State Government officials and representatives of the IT sector on Wednesday, said his Government was focussing on IT services and sought Indian support. While some companies were operating from Mauritius, the country is short of human resources. The Prime Minister expressed happiness over the concern expressed by the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, whom he met earlier. Dr Reddy wanted the Mauritius Government to open a recruitment centre in the city for creating job opportunities in Mauritius. Mr Ramgoolam said the Government was extending tax exemptions to all IT companies besides liberalising IT imports. Mauritius had completed the first Cyber Towers, which has been occupied, and the second phase is under way. Later the visiting Prime Minister witnessed live demonstration of electronic voting machines (EVMs) of Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL). The Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, Mr Y. Gopal Reddy, said the EVMs were developed to suit the needs of people in Mauritius.
