YSR directs officials to do groundwork for ADB meet

Hyderabad , Oct. 28

THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed officials to make the required arrangements in advance in connection with the 39th Annual General Meeting (Board of Governors meeting) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to be held in Hyderabad from May 3 to 6, 2006.

The event, being hosted by the Government of India with the AP State Government making the necessary logistics arrangements, would be attended by Finance Ministers of 65 ADB member countries and chaired by the Union Finance Minister.

The meeting is held every year in one of the ADB's member countries.

The Government of India would meet the entire cost of the event, while the State Government would look after reception and cultural activities.

The ADB meeting would be held at the International Convention Centre at Madhapur, which is set to be ready by the end of 2005. In addition, Novotel Hotel, with a capacity of 300 rooms, adjacent to the venue would also be completed by March 2006.

The Chief Minister on Friday reviewed the arrangements being made by the concerned departments. He stressed on foolproof arrangements under the supervision of the High-Power Committee of officers chaired by the Finance Minister, according to an official press release.

Making a detailed presentation on the ADB meeting, the Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr K. Ramakantha Reddy, said about 3,000 delegates were expected to attend the meeting.

According to him, 1,500 members of the international financial community and 150 former employees of ADB would be attending as guests, besides 200 media representatives, 100 seminar participants and about 100 NGOs.

The Airports Authority of India and the Ministry of Civil Aviation were being actively involved to upgrade facilities at Hyderabad and other airports involved, the release said.
