The Valigonda train mishap in Andhra Pradesh is one of the worst rail accidents in living memory. Apart from the loss of lives, the increasing spate of railway accidents strains the economy as huge amounts need to be donated as relief to families of victims.

But, if the same amount is spent on maintenance, accidents of this sort can be avoided.
