Upper Ganges Sugar posts profit

MUMBAI: Upper Ganges Sugar and Industries, belonging to the K. K. Birla Group, has reported a second quarter net profit of Rs 4.41 crore against a net loss of Rs 6 crore.

Turnover rose by 30.54 per cent to Rs 90.22 crore for the quarter ended September 2005 as against Rs 69.12 crore in the year-ago period.

The board of Upper Ganges also approved installation of a 24 MW co-generation plant for export and captive use at Seohara at an estimated capital outlay of Rs 100 crore. The plant is expected to go on stream in the beginning of the calendar year 2007.
