THE roll out of one lakh common service centres, a part of the national e-governance programme by the Centre, will start next year, according to Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister of Communication and Information Technology.

In the final count, there would be about six lakh villages in this programme. These kiosks will be networked first to the State and then to the Central networks and be set up in public-private partnerships, Mr Maran said.

Mr Maran was speaking at the launch of Wireless Broadband System for Mass Deployment by the Chennai-based Midas Communication. The Minister also inaugurated the company's Advanced Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Conduction (EMC) laboratory.

Mr Shirish Purohit, CEO and Founder Director of Midas Communication, said the EMI/EMC lab had facilities to test compliance with international standards covering lighting and other surges, electrostatic discharge up to 15 kV, conduction test, power supply variation, interruption test, emitted radiation test and human safety test.
